For two days again this year Portorož hosted the largest professional congress in Slovenian industry. The 7th Industrial Forum IRT this year saw a record 57 excellent contributions from invited and registered experts, and at the showroom over 40 producers showcased their wares and activities. A round table with several respected guests focused on innovation and development as agents for greater economic growth. The crowning moment though, as always, came when the prestigious TARAS award was conferred for the most successful collaboration between the private and research sectors.

Edge preparation for welding in mid-heavy and heavy industries is always a challenge and often a problem, addressed by the industry in different ways. The problem of edge preparation used to be solved mechanically (by milling, grinding) and by using oxyfuel technology. But all these processes are relatively laborious. The time of processing is becoming an increasingly important aspect in every production, so the manufacturers have started to use newer ways of welding edge preparation, saving time and simplifying the traditional edge preparation methods.
