SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN with new date in September 2023

30.03.2021

Lack of planning certainty and international travel restrictions are the decisive reasons for this year’s cancellation

SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN will not be held in 2021. The new date for the leading international trade fair for joining, cutting and coating is September 11 to 15, 2023. Then companies and decision-makers from all over the world will meet at Messe Essen to exchange information on the latest innovations, services and research results in this important sector of the economy. The date originally planned for September of this year was not feasible in view of the current frame conditions. This is because exhibitors and organizers of the world's leading trade fair, which most recently attracted around 50,000 trade visitors, need planning reliability and lead time.

"SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN gathers trade visitors from over 120 countries," says Oliver P. Kuhrt, Managing Director of Messe Essen. "In view of the current travel restrictions, we will not be able to live up to the claim of a leading world trade fair this year. Added to this is the lead time of several months for our exhibitors, who present complex high-tech plants on elaborately designed trade fair stands. At present, we cannot offer our customers the necessary planning security. With the new trade fair date in 2023, we are fulfilling the industry's justified expectations of a world-leading trade fair worthy of the name."

Johannes Ried, Managing Director Microstep Europa GmbH, welcomes the decision to cancel the trade show and appreciates the new date in 2023: "As one of the world's leading manufacturers of CNC-controlled cutting systems, SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN is an absolute must-attend event for us. We place great expectations in the trade fair, which have always been more than fulfilled up to now. For this reason, we welcome the new date in 2023, when the conditions for a world-leading trade fair of this format are once again in place."

This assessment is also shared by Konrad Mohr, Market Unit Director, Cluster Central Europe at Air Liquide: "We usually start planning and coordinating our participation in the trade fair more than a year in advance and invest a lot of effort in presenting our products and services to a wide audience. This effort is rewarded by SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN with national and international decision-makers that we only meet there in this number and quality. Holding the fair this year would inevitably have been associated with significant restrictions, which we also impose on ourselves as a group in order to put a stop to the pandemic. The new date provides us and the industry with security and maintains the quality promise of SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN – I am sure that both will have a positive effect on the trade fair and the industry get-together."

The industry is waiting for SSCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN

The importance of the world's leading trade fair is shown by the fact that many companies develop their innovations after the SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN cycle. Therefore, the new event date in 2023 is an important signal for the industry. Dr.-Ing. Roland Boecking, Managing Director of German Welding Society: "Companies, service providers and research institutions need SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN to present their products and services to decision-makers in the industry. This is all the more true after the challenges posed by the corona pandemic. We look forward to the new date and offer more networking opportunities in the meantime."

Summit SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN Although the leading trade fair cannot take place in its usual, internationally unique form this September, at least the national industry can look forward to an exciting programme. The Summit SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN is planned as a presence event at Messe Essen and will offer professional added value on three pillars from 14 to 17 September 2021:

The scientific focus will be placed on the DVS CONGRESS and the Große Schweißtechnische Tagung as well as the DVS CAMPUS. At the same time, four DVS committees will come together for their meetings at Messe Essen. The conference programme will be rounded off with an accompanying exhibition.

Preparations for 2023 in full swing

Meanwhile, the previous plans for SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN are continuing seamlessly. Most recently, the world's leading trade show impressed the industry across the board: in 2017, 1,030 exhibitors from 41 countries presented their latest technologies for joining, cutting and coating. 94 percent of the total of 50,000 visitors from 120 countries have already announced that they will also visit the upcoming show.

"There’s no question we’d rather be making business contacts and building relationships at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN this year instead of in 2023. However, this new date gives the industry a reasonable perspective and allows us to start planning for a fair – the way we know and love it – now," says Johan Fransson, Managing Director Europe, ESAB Europe GmbH, summing up the anticipation for the next edition of SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN.
