In Germany, more than 40 million people wear glasses, and a third of these need to wear their visual aids constantly. To ensure that each customer receives glasses, which have been perfectly created to their needs, each pair of glasses made of plastic lenses is manufactured so that they meet the wearer's exact requirements.
For the past 20 years, LMT Tools has been supplying precision tools for the demanding manufacturing of these unique pieces, i.e. exactly yours.
Milling, turning, engraving - all processes used to manually machine high-quality eyeglass lenses. PCD tools manufactured by LMT Tools are often used for this application. For each lens, the required free-form geometries are "milled in" according to the ophthalmologist's specifications. The cut quality and the contour accuracy of the tools play a vital part in this process enabling precise and reliable cuts that are accurate to the micrometer. Minute surface imperfections, such as chipping or cracks in the plastic, which can occur during the machining process, will make the workpiece unusable. Any surface defect is intensified since different materials are used depending on the required refractive index. LMT Tools are also utilized during the "edging" process in making these lenses.
Milling tools and indexable inserts from LMT Tools meet the strict requirements of medical applications providing consistent surface quality, ensuring precise contour accuracy, and maintaining excellent cutting edge quality throughout the entire life of the tool. These precision tools allow for the manufacturing of exactly milled eyeglass lenses with transparent surfaces for flawless vision during production and in use.
