• Arburg to present expertise as well as products and services for powder injection moulding (PIM)
• Team of PIM experts to attend local industry events
• Pioneer in powder processing with a dedicated PIM laboratory
. Marco Maetzig will hold a presentation during which he will share his specialist knowledge with the congress participants.
From 20 to 23 October, Arburg will also present its extensive range of powder injection moulding products and services at the Ceramitec in Munich, Germany, (Hall B1, Stand 219/320).
Arburg is known throughout the industry as a pioneer in the injection moulding of plastics, as well as metal and ceramic powders. At the EuroPM2015 and Ceramitec fairs, the German machine manufacturer will take the opportunity to present trends in powder injection moulding, explain the potential of this innovative process to interested parties and provide in-depth answers to individual questions.
Presentation: Temperature control and part quality
In his presentation at the Euro PM2015, Marko Maetzig, who is responsible for applications development, will examine the relationship between mould temperature and part quality: "Fluctuations in quality often arise during powder processing, leading to variations in part properties." A constant green compact density should be strived for in order to avoid time-consuming tests and costly mould modifications. Congress participants will find out how this can be achieved through complete pressure compensation in the moulded part and how the Variotherm process can contribute to this.
PIM laboratory covers all process steps
Arburg’s headquarters in Lossburg house an extremely well equipped laboratory in which new application areas for the PIM process are continuously being developed. All upstream and downstream production steps such as material preparation, debinding, sintering and part analyses can also be tested there. Equipment includes a shear roll extruder, debinding systems, sintering ovens and a device for simultaneous thermal analysis. This comprehensive range is complemented by automation solutions, application-specific consulting and special PIM training courses that are held in Lossburg and around the world where demand requires.
Allrounders for powder processing
Fundamentally, the same machines used in plastics processing are also used for powder injection moulding. However, the Allrounder machines for PIM processing feature special equipment such as a highly wear resistant cylinder module, a special screw geometry adapted to powder injection moulding and a position-regulated screw.
The product range, which is produced on Allrounders, extends from micro gear wheels with an external diameter of 1.4 millimetres to ceramic cores for stationary gas turbines weighing up to two kilograms. New materials, mould and machine technology are opening the door to a growing number of innovative PIM applications in a diverse range of industries.
