Already in the beginning of February, the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce opens the 26th call for the best innovations in 2022. Thirteen regional Chambers of Commerce started with activities for project promotions in discussions with companies about their innovative activities.

This contribution presents the advancement in MIG/MAG welding process control technology on a case study of 3D overlay welding or Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). The major challenges of MIG/MAG welding and overlay welding are in achieving suitable weld dimensions, process stability and robustness, and absence of defects. A system for WAAM developed in the Laboratory for welding is presented along with a control system developed for solving the above-mentioned challenges. The results of ongoing research show that in order to increase the robustness and greater geometrical stability of welds, on-line process control is necessary.

The new Hoffmann Group Connected Tools (HCT) Windows App brings measurement data from the torque wrench into the quality assurance system (CAQ) – using the CSV/DFQ format or MUX50/DMX16 protocol. If  the intended value is not achieved when a screw is being tightened, the system issues an alarm. This makes it possible to prevent errors, while the measured results are reliably documented.
