A successful (second) year


December is the time when we usually look back at work that has been done and set new milestones for ourselves. The IRT3000 magazine project has been additionally upgraded in the year coming to the end: we have published six issues for a total of almost thousand pages or three kilograms of professional material. The post office has delivered almost 24.000 copies or approximately 13 tonnes of information, knowledge, data, advice, reports, professional articles and contributions. In October, the Croatian edition of IRT3000 magazine was born and it is also being distributed to other countries in the field of former Yugoslavia. Therefore we can evaluate the ending year as very fruitful for the IRT3000 magazine.

In addition to that, the IRT3000 magazine was present on all important (almost thirty) professional events and trade fairs. We were glad to be able to accept the invitations from organisers and exhibitors and to be present as a media sponsor or even as sponsors of sport teams.

We are glad to see the magazine being read by more and more readers each day and the increasing number of subscribers proves the magazine found its place among the professional audience. This is acknowledged by numerous praises and invitations to events where the presence of our magazine is desired. Furthermore, the structure of advertisers is expanding and diversifying all the time, as more and more companies learn to acknowledge the role of a media that promotes the companies published therein.

The credits for achieving all that go to the entire team contributing in the project, as well as to you, subscribers and companies, helping through advertisements for our story to continue. We hope our story keeps developing in the future – professionally and as far as content is concerned.

Finally, I would like to wish to you in my name and in the name of the whole team and IRT3000 editorial board mostly a lot of energy, so you are able to carry out the tasks at hand with commitment and devotion, and then reap the fruits of your work with satisfaction at the end of the year... We wish you an innovatively successful, developmentally full and technologically accomplished year 2008!

Hydroforming with tempered dies


Tempered forming under high internal pressure (T-IHU) is a process of the future that promises a lot. The researchers have managed to expand magnesium pipes by approximately 120 percent, while the formability in aluminium semi-manufactured products has increased by more than 63 percent.

The third Cimos challenge meeting took place in mid-November. The event titled Cimos forum was dedicated to internal audiences, partners, developmental cooperatives, students, researchers, suppliers and customers. All the discussions in this year’s forum had one thing in common: orientation into the future and finding solutions.

At the beginning of the month, four new buildings of Ljubljana technology park (TP Lj) were officially opened, to be followed by three more in the beginning of the next year. Their total value is approximately 41.3 million Euros. Slovenian minister for development Žiga Turk claims the investment will help to better cooperation between the science sphere and the companies and that Slovenia needs more cases like this one.

There is no lack of important events in Idrija Kolektor trust, as the company Kolektor Synatec has founded a new company Sinabit in Ljubljana together with companies Abit and Vran Inženiring. This was followed by moving the Kolektor Prokol's production to Dekani. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kolektor has purchased land and a production plant. Also, Kolektor’s company in Kočevje is right about to start its operations.

Nataša Ratej is entrepreneur of the year


Nataša Ratej, owner of company Rima, has become the entrepreneur of year 2007. The title was awarded to her for developing and managing a successful construction company Rima, one of the first in Slovenia that started introducing dry construction. The company is distinguished by complex project management, unifying broad professional knowledge, advanced technological solutions, ecological approach and design courage. All this has made the company recognisable and well-respected.

If we are looking for successful entrepreneurs in Slovenia, mostly those that have started from nothing, we cannot overlook Ivo Boscarol, director and founder of company Pipistrel, d.o.o. from Ajdovščina, who earned worldwide recognition with his ultralight aircrafts. He is especially proud on the award given this summer to his Virus by NASA. In a competition of 172 aircrafts, Virus was awarded the title “aircraft of the future” and could also become an “air car”.

RHCM moulding – the key to a »beautiful« surface

GE-Plastics have made a step forward in solving this problem by developing a process titled RHCM, Rapid Heat Cycle Moulding. This process enables a maximum positive influence on the surface of an injection-moulded product, at the same time only minimally prolonging the cycle time. The RHCM technological process can be realised on a classical injection moulding machine.

Digital cars are coming

The automotive industry is standing before big challenges. The audience is demanding a reduction of car accidents and less emission of harmful gases. The first place among the numerous demands confronted by the automotive industry is probably safety. In 2001, the European Union set a goal of decreasing the number of dead in car accidents in member states (15 at that time) from 40.000 to approximately 20.000 by 2010.
